With the 2008 season ready to kickoff with the draft in a little over a week, I thought I’d point out a few technology-related things that will either increase your happiness with the online league setup this year or give you another excuse to spend more time on fantasy football.

1. This year’s myFantasyLeague site: http://www24.myfantasyleague.com/2008/home/36972 – this is where you will be doing all of your lineup setting, trading, waivers, etc
2. This blog – All recaps, previews, pictures of hot chicks, and other updates will be posted here. The main page of the myFantasyLeague site will provide links to the 5 most recent articles.
3. The MFL History site – All of our league’s history and records. You know you love the detail.
4. The Waymorefunner site – The main remaining functions on this site are the Survivor standings and the Division/Wild Card races. You can also view your franchise rating here, but that is only updated at the end of the season.

Blog Use Tips

• Get notified when the blog is updated. If you are into RSS feeds, subscribe to the blog feed. If you’d like an email when a new post goes up, you can subscribe for that too.
• Comment on the posts. At the end of each post here, there is some text that now usually says “No Comments” — click it, comment, talk some smack about how I’m ignoring your team in the record updates, praise me for highlighting your blowout win, whatever…
• Click “Read the rest of this entry” — that’s usually where the good pictures will be
• Register — use the register option on the front page of the blog to set up a profile on the blog. I’ll approve you as an author and you’ll be able to contribute your own articles to the blog. There’s a ton more functionality here in terms of article layout than there is on the MFL site.

New Stuff on MyFantasyLeague

• For Owners/Fantasy Pool Picks – I’ve activated this feature which will let you make confidence pool picks each week on our FANTASY matchups. The standings are at the bottom of the MFL front page.
• For Owners/My Watch List and For Owners/My Player News – You can use these links to view NFL news related to players on your team or players on a “watch list” of your own creation
• Reports/Franchise/Fantasy Recaps – this is a new ‘beta’ feature that will automatically generate game-by-game recaps for our fantasy matchups. They’re pretty cool. The system-chosen “game of the week” will display on the main page, but you can go here to view them for every game. For your team’s recap, you can even click on any quotes attributed to you and modify them to text of your own choosing.
• Reports/League/RSS Feed – Again, if you use RSS, this might be something you’re interested in
• Reports/Wireless – grab the links in this area and store them on your wireless web enabled device to access the league more easily from your phone
• For Owners/Franchise Setup, then the Advanced option – Fill in your cell phone number and choose your carrier to get live scoring updates texted to you on Sundays

Live Scoring GameDay Application

I’m not sure if it’s been updated for 2008 yet, but the downloadable, PC-based MFL GameDay application is the fastest live scoring app. Get the details here. If you are in multiple leagues on myFantasyLeague, you’ll love this tool, since you can switch between the scores each week with a simple mouse click.
