Week 6 Early Game Halftime Thoughts

Posted on October 12, 2008 by Post Mortem
No comments

Some thoughts at halftime of the early games — which I’ve been enjoying via the Red Zone channel on the DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket.

  • The top 2 scorers in PFFL at the half? Patrick Cobbs with 28.3 and the Rams D with 21.99. Both are free agents. #3 is the Colts D pitching a shutout of Baltimore and sitting on DDT’s bench.
  • There are a lot of low-scoring games at the half, including that thrilling Detroit-Minnesota game which is at 3-2.
  • Return TDs thus far: The Bengals returned a Brett Favre fumble for a TD. The Rams returned a Pete Kendall (yes, an OL) fumble for a TD with about 8 seconds left in the half. The Vikings have one of the easiest safeties ever. Tampa Bay has a blocked punt TD that was basically taken off the punter’s foot like a handoff. Jacoby Jones returned a punt for a TD for Houston. That’s 4 Def/ST touchdowns in the first half. Meanwhile, there have been 11 offensive TDs, 3 in the NYJ-Cincy game, 3 by Indy and 2 by Miami’s Patrick Cobbs.
  • Sebastian Janikowski has missed two field goals. It’s not so bad though, they were 57 and 59 yard attempts.
  • Did I mention that Patrick Cobbs has 133 receiving yards?

In PFFL:

  • Andre Johnson is leading the way for DDT while TKD is reeling from the early loss of Joseph Addai to a hamstring injury.
  • Kramerica leads SIAP behind the Tampa D and a few Jason Elam field goals.
  • Double D vs The Hip is going to be resolved in the late games.
  • Post Mortem and Hedfullalicker are struggling to put points on the board, despite 3 of the 4 starting running backs playing in noon games.
  • SaaBB has 7 players playing, but leads Camel Toe by only 9. CT is being paced by Marvin Harrison.
  • There has been a Peyton Manning sighting for CSPJ, not to mention a Thomas Jones multi-score day. And they lead Turd Ferguson by 20.
  • The Jedis and WBM are basically knotted up, with Brees and Pennington leading the scoring.

Whoa… The Lions just scored an offensive TD. On a passing play. From Dan Orlovsky. The Vikings might be really bad.

2008 Week 6 Preview [Brooklyn Decker]

View the 2008 Week 6 Game Center

Here’s a quick Sunday at noon look at the key matchups in PFFL this week:

  • DDT and TKD are both undefeated in division play. That will change this week. DDT leads this series 6-3, but TKD won the last matchup, in week 7 last season.
  • SIAP and Kramerica are both winless in division play. That will also change this week. SIAP is favored here based on a 6-0 all-time record against KI, including a 103.34 – 100.45 win in week 9 of the 2007 season.
  • Double D and The Hip are both looking to get back to .500 this week. The Hip won the first two matchups in this series (in 2003 and 2006, week 1), but DD has won the last two (2006, week 11 and 2007).
  • Undefeated Post Mortem plays a one-loss team for the second straight week. Hedfullalicker beat PM in week 11 last year, but trails the all-time matchup 11-5. PM is 2-1 against Hed in week 6 meetings.
  • In a battle of opposites, 1-4 Camel Toe takes on 4-1 SaaBB. SaaBB beat CT twice last year in their only career meetings.
  • Turd Ferguson seeks to rebound from their second loss of the season against 0-5 CSPJ. Turd leads the career matchup 2-1, but they have alternated victories, so this could be CSPJ’s turn.
  • The Jedi Masters are hoping to get back to .500 and get their first division victory over a WBM team in the midst of a 4-game losing streak. The Jedis have dominated this series 8-3, but lost to WBM back in Week 1.

2008 Week 5 Stat Changes [Keeley Hazell]

A couple stat changes this week had impacts on final scores in PFFL:

  • An 11-yard rush was erroneously attributed to Marshawn Lynch, when it was actually Fred Jackson. This added 1.1 point to CSPJ’s total, and deducted 1.1 point from The Hip.
  • A Ricky Williams negative yard play was changed from a negative rush to a sack, adding a point to the Chargers D. This added a point to Camel Toe’s score.

2008 Week Five Recap [Minka Kelly]

Week 5 Highlights

  • SaaBB won their fourth consecutive game, and weekly high points, beating DDT by 19. DDT maintains a 7-4 advantage over SaaBB all-time. Amazingly, SaaBB has only defeated DDT in week 5 games. Yep, 4-0 in week 5, 0-7 in any other week. Weeeeeeeeeeird.
  • SIAP squeaked by The Jedi Masters to put both teams at identical 2-3 records. This is SIAP’s first win over TJM since the 2004 championship game, but the Jedis still hold the matchup lead, 8-5.
  • Tappa Kegga Day won a third consecutive game and improved to 4-1 overall, and 3-0 in division play, with a close win over Kramerica. This should serve as some measure of revenge for Kramerica eliminating TKD from the playoffs last year.
  • Double D handed WBM their fourth straight loss in dominating fashion, and now leads the all-time matchup, 5-2. This is also the fourth time that DD has scored 100+ points in a game against WBM. Meanwhile, WBM has never broken 90 against DD.
  • Post Mortem benefited from Adrian Peterson’s meager Monday night point total to beat Turd Ferguson and remain undefeated. This is Post Mortem’s first win over Turd since week 5 of the 2005 season, but extends PM’s all-time matchup lead to 8-6.
  • Hedfullalicker improved to 4-1 with a 20-point win over winless CSPJ. Hed now leads this matchup 5-3 and has won 5 straight.
  • The Hip brought Camel Toe’s one-game win streak to an end with a 45-point victory. The Hip has beaten Camel three straight times and leads the career series, 3-1.

Record Watch

  • CSPJ’s losing streak now stands at 8 games, tied for 3rd longest in PFFL history. They can move into a tie for 2nd with a loss in week 6.
  • CSPJ’s 0-5 start is also tied for the 3rd worst start to a season. A loss next week moves them into a tie with The Hip and DDT for the worst starts to a season ever.
  • For the third time in league history, Post Mortem has started the season with 5 straight wins. In 1997, they started 6-0 and finished the regular season 12-2. Last year, Post Mortem started 5-0, then stumbled to a 2-7 record the rest of the way, sneaking into the playoffs as a lowly wild card.
  • DDT’s loss this week gives them a grand total of 50 losses in all games (regular and post- season). They become the 12th team in PFFL history to lose 50 games overall, and it took them the 2nd highest (112) number of games to get there. SIAP leads the way, taking 116 games to notch their 50th loss.

Recap Babe

Minka Kelly is on Friday Night Lights (the third season is airing now on DirecTV only, and will be on NBC in 2009). She’s dated John Mayer (what hottie hasn’t?) and has recently been seen palling around with Derek Jeter. She’s fairly hot.

2008 Week 5 Preview [Gemma Atkinson]

View the 2008 Week 5 GameCenter

3 division matchups, an inter-division battle of 3-1 teams, a few long all-time series and a battle for first place in the West are all on tap in week 5. All that and more as we move past the 1/3 mark of the season.

Week 5 Matchups

  • DDT (3-1) battles SaaBB (3-1) for the 11th time. DDT leads the career series 7-3, and won the last meeting, in week 13 last season, earning a season split of their 2007 division doubleheader.
  • The 2-2 Jedi Masters take on 1-3 SIAP for the 13th time. The Jedis have owned this series of late, winning the last 3 meetings overall (and 4 straight in the regular season) to take an 8-4 series lead. In fact, SIAP’s last win over the Jedis was in the 2004 championship game.
  • Kramerica (2-2) and Tappa Kegga Day (3-1) meet in a division matchup. The all-time series is tied at 2 wins each, with Kramerica winning the last meeting, in round 1 of the playoffs last season.
  • Double D and Winning Beer Money square off in a matchup of 1-3 teams looking to get back in the hunt. DD has the all-time advantage at 4 wins – 2, but WBM beat DD last year in week 10.
  • In a key West division game, undefeated Post Mortem battles 3-1 Turd Ferguson for the 14th time in PFFL history. PM leads that career series, 7-6, but has lost the last two meetings with Turd. Interestingly, PM owns the postseason lead in the series 2-0, meaning that Turd actually has the regular season advantage, 6-5.
  • Hedfullalicker (3-1) is a big favorite in their non-division meeting with CSPJ (0-4). After winning the first three all-time meetings, CSPJ has lost four straight to Hedfullalicker.
  • In another division matchup, two 1-3 teams meet for the fourth time overall, and second this season. The Hip beat Camel Toe back in week 1, 72.93 – 49.53. That is The Hip’s only win thus far this season. Camel Toe got their first win last week with a dominant performance.

Milestone Watch

  • SIAP is only one loss away from 75 career regular season defeats.
  • Hedfullalicker is 103 away from 14,000 career regular season points.
  • The Jedi Masters need only 54 to reach 13,000 career regular season points.
  • CSPJ can extend their losing streak to 8 games.
  • Post Mortem looks to extend their streak of wins to start the season to 5.

2008 Week Four Recap [Amanda Righetti]

View the Week Four Automated Recaps at myFantasyLeague

Week 4 Highlights

  • Post Mortem remained undefeated with a 40-point win over previously unblemished DDT. Post has now beaten DDT three straight times to take a 5-3 series lead. It’s also the third straight game where neither team scored 100+ points.
  • SIAP fell to 1-3 overall, and a dangerous 0-3 in division play with a loss to 3-1 Tappa Kegga Day (who is 2-0 in division play). TKD’s third consecutive win in the series knots the all-time matchup at 7 wins each. SIAP’s last victory over TKD? 2002.
  • CSPJ remains winless, following a 20-point defeat at the hands of 2-2 Kramerica. Kramerica now leads the career series, 4-3.
  • SaaBB extended their season win streak to 3 games with an 11-point victory over 1-3 Double D. The win ends a 2-game DD win streak in the series and ties the all-time matchup at 3 wins each.
  • Camel Toe exploded to a 115 point week, gaining their first win of the year over a Hedfullalicker team that also scored 100 this week, but received their first defeat. This was CT’s first division win and Hed’s first division loss of the year as well. The all-time matchup is now tied at 2 wins apiece.
  • The Jedi Masters got back to .500 with a close win over 1-3 The Hip. This is the third straight win over the Hipsters for the Jedis, but The Hip still holds a 5-4 career advantage.
  • Turd Ferguson beat Winning Beer Money for the first time since 1999 and only the second time in 12 career matchups. WBM saw their 7-game win streak over Turd come to an end, and fell to 1-3 after notching high points in week 1. Turd is now 3-1 on the year and has won 3 straight.

Record Watch

  • CSPJ now has a 7-game loss streak (dating back to last season). That’s good enough for a tie for 7th longest loss streak in league history. Another L, and they’ll move into a tie for 3rd.
  • A team has started the season 4-0 only 11 times in the 11+ year history of PFFL. Post Mortem has now accomplished the feat three times (a 6-0 start in 1997 and a 5-0 start in 2007). No other team has started 4-0 more than once.
  • Meanwhile, teams have started the year 0-4 13 times. CSPJ joined that list this week for the second time (also going 0-4 in 2006). The Hip (3 times) and Double D (twice) have also started seasons 0-4 more than once.
  • Post Mortem’s league-leading career win total now stands at 90, a full 6 wins ahead of TKD and SIAP.

Recap Babe

Amanda Righetti currently appears on CBS’ The Mentalist, which is actually a pretty decent show. Her past credits aren’t all that impressive though. I mean, Travis probably remembers her from the O.C., but beyond that, the highlight is probably the screencaps below from the movie Angel Blade, which probably only 12 people in the world saw.
