Save the Date: PFFL 2011 Draft – Friday, August 26, 2011

Posted on July 11, 2011 by Post Mortem

It seems to be the time of year (or just the height of optimism about the end to NFL labor negotiations) to get draft date messages out, so here’s the official notice for PFFL.

Barring a ton of conflicts, this year’s draft (the FIFTEENTH in PFFL history) will be on Friday, August 26th. We’ll again target a 3:00 pm start time.

I did put a little poll on the PFFL site just in case the 26th is an issue for like half of you or something: http://football9.myfantasyleague.com/2011/options?L=27911&O=224&EVENT_ID=289 — please click that link and check off the availability of your franchise to draft on the three dates mentioned.

(I’m guessing you won’t like the Labor Day weekend alternative dates much though, so I’m going on an assumption that it will be the 26th)

2011 1st Round Draft Selection and This Year’s MFL Site

Posted on June 27, 2011 by Post Mortem

I’m cautiously optimistic that we’re going to have a full NFL season this year once everyone agrees how to split up eleventy billion dollars fairly. That means that the FIFTEENTH season of PFFL is also gonna happen. So, we need a draft order.

DDT is the first team up to select a draft spot. They have until 11:59 pm (CT) on Wednesday, July 6th, to make their choice. Some procedural details on the 1st round selection timer:

  • The clock starts at 11:59 pm on Monday, July 4th
  • Teams are free to make their selections before the timer is activated though. Any choices made before 11:59 pm on Monday, July 4th, will put the next team in line on the clock with the same Wednesday deadline.
  • After Monday, every pick made will put the next team on the clock. They will have at least 48 hours to make their choice. So, if DDT makes their pick at 1 pm on Tuesday, July 5th, Winning Beer Money will have until 11:59 pm on Thursday, June 7th, to make their choice.
  • If you are going on vacation, or will have limited internet access for any reason, over the next few weeks, let me know and we’ll work something out. (in other words, the commissioner reserves the right to pause the clock or make a selection for a team if an exception arises)

Note: The divisions are setup, but the league schedule is not finalized yet — I’m going to wait to make sure we have a full 17 week NFL slate before I set that up.

2011 Divisions and Draft Selection Order

Posted on January 10, 2011 by Post Mortem
No comments

The Double D victory parade has ended, the confetti has been cleaned up, and unlike the actual NFL, the PFFL has no plans to lock out players. In other words, we are officially in the 2011 PFFL season.

To kick things off, random draws were held at the postseason bash to determine 2011 division assignments and the order for 1st round draft spot selection.

Division Assignments — The Central division has complete turnover from 2010, while CSPJ  and Tappa Kegga Day are staying put in an effort to defend their respective division titles.

Draft Spot Selection Order — After two straight years of intense fan pressure due to choosing their draft spot first, Camel Toe can rest easy. They are #14 this year and will not have to make any decisions until draft day. DDT is on the clock and can choose their draft spot anytime. Of course, we won’t be putting a timer on this until after July 4th weekend, so feel free to mull this over for 6 months.

By the way, if you guys were impressed with the girls Steck found for the draft, you should’ve seen who he invited to the postseason party. (That picture up there was the only SFW one we were able to get before things got really crazy)

2008 PFFL Draft Results

The 2008 PFFL Draft was held on Friday night at official PFFL draft HQ (aka Long Wongs).

You have a few options for viewing draft results:

  • Draft Report on the myFantasyLeague site
  • Draft Results on the Waymorefunner site
  • Draft Recap Report on the myFantasyLeague site

That last one (the draft recap report) is a beta feature on myFantasyLeague this year. I would take everything in it with a grain of salt, but it evaluates each team’s picks based on how closely they align with the ADP (Average Draft Position) of that player in all drafts conducted on myFantasyLeague. It’s not a bad way to see where you might have ‘reached’ for a player.

The preseason Blind Bid Waiver period is now open, so if you regret a draft pick, you can submit a bid to replace him. Note, however, that these bids will not be processed until Wednesday, Sept 3 at 10:00 pm. The BB period will be followed by First Come First Serve waivers, beginning at 10:30 pm that same night (and continuing through noon on Sunday — just realize that you can’t touch players participating in the Thursday night game once that game kicks off).

Thanks everyone for a great draft (and the birthday wishes, and more importantly, not buying me any shots) last night. Good luck this season!

Here’s some more of former Cowboy cheerleader Sarah Shahi. Enjoy!

2008 Division Assignments / Draft Spot Selection Order

Posted on January 6, 2008 by Post Mortem
No comments

carrie-underwood-vanity-fair.jpgAfter one of the most successful postseason parties since the late 90′s when porn got ordered, we’ve begun preparations for the 2008 PFFL season.

In the first order of official business, 2008 Division Assignments were drawn randomly. You can view the results on the Waymorefunner PFFL site.

carrie-underwood-cmt-1.jpgA few notes:

  • The last two Super Bowl champs (The Jedi Masters and Winning Beer Money) are in the Central
  • Two 2007 division champs (SIAP and Kramerica) are paired up in the East
  • Post Mortem is in the West for the fifth straight year.
  • Kramerica is in the East for the third straight year
  • Hedfullalicker (West), DDT (East), and WBM (Central) are staying in the same division they were in in ’07
  • Post Mortem is the only ’07 playoff team in the West, while 4 of the 5 Eastern teams and 3 of 4 in the Central qualified for the postseason.

p1_underwood.jpgNext up, was the random drawing for the draft spot selection order. Before we get to those results, let me remind you of the changes that are in place for the 2008 draft. As announced in mid-August:

Some background: Our current draft order process re-randomizes every odd round. The goal of this activity was to increase the ‘fairness’ of the draft order for all teams in our unique 14 team league, via randomization (aka, every team has a shot at the 1st pick in the 3rd round). In addition, we started the “Pick your own first round spot” thing a few years ago as a way to increase the ‘fun factor’ in the offseason leading up to the draft itself. We could probably hold an endless debate about whether the randomization was truly “fair” or whether the pick your first round spot thing has been “fun”. I’m not going there now though, preferring instead to present our new and improved 2008 Draft process.

In 2008, we will draw names from a hat ONE time. This order will determine the order in which teams select their First Round Draft spot. The selection of a first round draft position will also determine your draft spot for the rest of the draft as follows:
The team who selects the #1 spot in round one will have the following picks:
1.01
2.14
3.14
4.14
5.01
6.14
7.01
etc

The team who selects the #14 spot in round one will have the following picks:
1.14
2.01
3.01
4.01
5.14
6.01
7.14
etc

In other words, the draft order will be set up with a traditional “serpentine” approach (each round is the reverse of the previous round), THEN the THIRD round (and third round only) will be flipped, so that rounds 2, 3 and 4 share the same draft order.

This is called “Third Round Reversal” or “Banzai” drafting. There is a bunch of statistical analysis that has gone into proving that this is the most equitable draft order, so our hope is that this order accomplishes the ‘parity’ goal that we had previously strived for with the re-randomization. AND, it should make the selection of your first round draft position a LOT more interesting, since the top spots will drop you near the bottom of the next three rounds.

carrie_underwood_43500.jpgThe Draft Spot Selection order can be found on the same page that you make your spot selection. That page will be updateed soon to update the entire draft order once your selection is made. Of course, none of you will pick a spot until July anyway, but that’s beside the point.

Happy with your spot? Angered about it? Confused about which spot to select? Feel free to comment here or bitch to your mom. Your choice.

Carrie Underwood (a hot topic of discussion at the postseason party since she was on the SNL repeat airing after the playoff games finished and before JW and JH found the gay show) wishes all of you a happy FFL offseason.

Draft Results – Jessica Alba – Firewall Workaround

Jessica Alba’s ass A few random notes following the 11th annual PFFL draft:

  • Draft results are available on the MFL site: http://football24.myfantasyleague.com/2007/options?L=14230&O=17
  • Gralewski can’t read
  • SaaBB drafts better (and faster) when their wives take them out of town
  • TKD traded up to get Ladainian Tomlinson, then did just about everything in his power to get the team prepared to miss the playoffs. (of course, by typing this I’ve all but guaranteed a Stecklein championship)
  • Long Wongs repeated their 2006 performance as fantastic draft site, and continues to lack anything remotely like an attractive female customer

If you work for one of those companies that likes to block fantasy football sites, you might want to try accessing our league site this year using this IP-based URL: http://64.73.54.65/2007/home/14230

Jessica Alba has a decent body…I guess (from The Superficial)
