2008 Week 14 Preview [Carol Alt]

Quick FYI: There were a few stat changes this week, but they had no impact on PFFL game scores, so no stat change update today.

Here we are at the end of another regular season. Following this week’s action, I’ll try to spend some time looking at the trends in the league this year. I’m not sure, but it seems like there’s been a little more parity scoring-wise, at least among the playoff contending teams. I don’t think any one team was completely dominant from the top to bottom of their roster. It’s weird, but it almost seems to mirror the NFL where there are a few not-so-good-at-all teams and then a bunch of decent-to-great teams depending on which week you look at them.

Week 14 Matchups

Duany Duany Tanning is looking for a split in their season series with Kramerica, after suffering an 11-point loss back in week 8. Kramerica has won three straight in this matchup, but DDT has won both week 14 meetings (in 2005 and 2006). The winner this week takes a one win lead in the 9-game all-time series.
TKD looks for the season sweep of SIAP this week. A sweep is a rare occurence when these two are in the same division. This is the sixth time they have shared a division home, and 5 of those times, the season series has been split. The only exception was SIAP’s sweep in 2000. This is the 15th career meeting between these two, with each currently holding 7 wins.
Post Mortem and Camel Toe meet for the second time this year and third since CT joined the league. In week 14 of last season, Camel defeated Post by 15, while Mortem crushed Toe by 29 7 weeks ago.
Hedfullalicker is looking for a fourth straight win to end the season when they take on The Hip. The Hip leads the career series, 9-6, but Hedfullalicker won their week 3 matchup by 30. This is the fifth time these two have been in the same division, and a Hip win would make them 5-for-5 in season splits in those seasons.
Double D and Turd Ferguson meet in the final week of the regular season for the third time. Turd beat DD in week 14 in 2005, while DD won last year. Turd leads the all-time matchup, 6-2.
The Jedi Masters and their faint playoff hopes meet up with the eliminated Chain Smokers this week. The Jedis beat CSPJ back in week 8 by 51 and lead the historical series, 3-2. Their in-season schedule matches the only other season in which they were in the same division — 2004, when the Jedis won the week 8 and 14 meetings.
Sharp as a Bowling Ball looks to complete the sweep of Winning Beer Money in their season series this week, and end the year on a 4-game win streak. SaaBB has beaten WBM two straight times, but the overall series is knotted up at 5-5-1. WBM’s last win over SaaBB came in their only other week 14 meeting, in 2006.

Record Watch

Post Mortem and Tappa Kegga Day are both looking to go 7-1 in division play. This would put them into a tie for 4th on the list of best division winning percentages. TKD has finished 7-1 in division play twice, in 1997 and 2005. Post Mortem’s best only division record with more than 6 wins was in 1997 when they went 8-0.
SIAP and Post Mortem have already locked up spots in a tie for 7th best non-division win percentage with their 5-1 performances outside their respective divisions.
If Post Mortem defeats Camel Toe, it will mark only the 4th time that a team has won 12 or more games and the 3rd time a team has lost 12 or more.
The Jedi Masters need 105 points to crack the top 10 season point totals while Camel Toe needs to score less than 107 to get a spot on the 10 worst season point totals list.
The winner of the SIAP-TKD matchup will get their 90th regular season win and sit in 2nd place on the career regular season wins list. The winner also becomes only the 2nd team in PFFL history to hit 50 division wins. If SIAP wins, it will be their 100th win overall.

Those of us who went through puberty in the 80′s remember Carol Alt from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. Well, she just turned 48 and decided that now would be a good time to pose for Playboy. So, yeah, here she is. Naked. At 48 years old. Sure, there is probably a fair amount of image cleanup going on here, but she still looks pretty dang good.

Week 13 Matchups

DDT and SIAP meet for the tenth time in PFFL history and second time this year in a key East division battle. DDT beat SIAP, 105.55 – 98.31, back in week 1, has beaten SIAP in two straight, and leads the overall series, 6-3.
In another East division matchup, Kramerica takes on Double D. Kramerica beat DD by 25 back in week 7, but has been dominated by Double D in the career matchup, 6-2. Double D won their first three meetings, then dropped a game to KI. DD followed that with three more in a row before Kramerica beat them this season. Is this the start of another 3-game win streak for Double D, or does Kramerica turn the tide?
Tappa Kegga Day and Sharp as a Bowling Ball square off in an inter-divisional clash of division leaders. This one could have some seeding implications. TKD won the first two career meetings, then endured an 8-game losing streak to SaaBB from 1998-2004. Since then, however, TKD has won three in a row in this streaky series, but still trails overall, 8-5.
Post Mortem looks to keep their division record unblemished this week in a rematch with Hedfullalicker. Post beat Hed back in week 6, 109.89 – 78.67, and leads the all-time matchup, 12-5. Yes, this is the 18th meeting of these two clubs. The last time PM beat ‘licker twice in one season? 2002 — when they also met in weeks 6 and 13.
The Hip and Turd Ferguson will play a critical playoff pursuit game this week in a rematch of a week 8 win by Turd. Turd leads this career matchup, 8-4, and has won four of the last five.
Camel Toe and The Jedi Masters are playing for the third time in Camel’s three seasons. The Jedis have owned this matchup to-date, scoring 112 and 144 points in those two games while holding Toe to less than 80. The Jedis probably have some faint playoff hopes on the line here.
CSPJ and WBM play for the second time this year and eighth in PFFL history. CSPJ beat WBM 4 weeks ago by 9 points, ending a 4-game WBM win streak in the series. WBM leads all-time, 4-2-1 (Yes, Donovan, there are ties in PFFL too).

Record Watch

DDT hopes to avoid their 50th regular season loss
DDT is only 33.91 points away from 10,000 regular season points. Barring a performance like last week, they should reach that mark.
SIAP has a chance to become the second team in PFFL history to win 50 division games.

2008 RIVALRY Week 12 Preview

This week is the second of our two rivalry weeks for the season. Last time I named them all. This time, each team gets a mascot. Why? Well, I’d rather look for pictures of hot chicks than spend the day trying to think of some unique name for your rivalry. If any of you would like to name your rivalry games differently, however, feel free to let me know.

Week 12 Rivalry Matchups

Duany Duany Tanning vs Tappa Kegga Day
Olsen Twins vs Shania Twain

This is the 11th meeting between these two clubs in a series that has seen games played in every year since DDT joined the league. DDT beat TKD, 91.5 – 59.6, back in week 6 and hopes to their overall series advantage to 8-3. A win would also put DDT right back in the mix for the East division crown. DDT is represented by the Olsen twins in a photo that is more than likely fake, but that I’m sure DDT will enjoy. TKD is being cheered on by Shania Twain. I have no idea if she’s still performing or even alive, but she’s probably still on Steck’s list.

This battle features the two winningest teams in PFFL history. Post Mortem leads all teams with 101overall wins and 96 regular season victories. SIAP is right behind with 89 in the regular season and is seeking their 100th win overall this week. This series is just as close, tied at six wins each in the regular season (although SIAP holds the overall lead, 7-6, due to a playoff win). SIAP won the last meeting, in week 7 last season. This is the 4th week 12 meeting in the career matchup, with SIAP ahead 2-1 in week 12 games. Krista Allen and Keeley Hazell share a special spot in many dreams…

This is the 10th meeting between Kramerica and WBM in a series that dates back to 2002. 2002 might also be when these two Brookes were both popular. Kramerica is currently 7-4 and riding a two-game win streak. WBM is 4-7 after losing last week. In the career series, Kramerica holds the lead, 5-4, and won the last meeting, 117.89 – 76.2, in week 8 of the 2007 season. This is the latest in the season these two teams have ever met.

Yeah, so these pictures were just team name based. It seemed appropriate. And really, when you’re both 3-8? Well, it’s not like I’m going to try extra hard. This game is probably going to be quite meaningful, though, as the loser is gonna be out of the playoff picture. I’m not saying the winner will get in, but they might at least still be alive. Since CSPJ won the first meeting in 2004, Double D has dominated this series, leading 3-1.

Katherine McPhee vs Carrie Underwood

The babe matchup is two former American Idol hotties. The game matchup is a good one. TJM leads the all-time series over Hedfullalicker, 7-6, has won the last two meetings, and desperately needs a victory this week if they want to have any chance at a playoff berth. Hedfullalicker has won both of the previous two week 12 matchups between these clubs. Interestingly, since the Jedi’s entry into the league in 1998, these two teams have played every season except 2000.

In a battle of original PFFL franchises, SaaBB and The Hip square off for the 17th time. The overall series is all tied up at 8 wins each. This is the fourth time these teams have met in week 12, with The Hip holding a 2-1 advantage. SaaBB has already locked up a playoff spot with the Central division title, while The Hip, at 5-6, is fighting for survival in their quest for the postseason.

Camel Toe vs Turd Ferguson
Erica Durance vs Scarlett Johansson

This young rivalry is being represented this week by Lois Lane (Smallville version) and the star of way too many Woody Allen movies. Turd leads this series, 2-1, winning in both 2006 and back in week 2 this season. Camel Toe took down Turd last year. These two teams have never before met after week 8. Camel Toe is out of playoff contention, but Turd Ferguson is right in the mix at 6-5.

Week 11 Matchups

Duany Duany Tanning and Hedfullalicker square off in a battle of playoff contenders. DDT leads this series 5-4 and has won the last two meetings. These two have played at least once per season every year since 2002.
In a matchup of 6-4 teams battling for the division lead in the East, SIAP plays Kramerica. Kramerica won the first meeting of the season, back in week 6, 116.26 – 104.04, but SIAP maintains the all-time series advantage, 6-1.
Tappa Kegga Day and Double D meet for the tenth time in PFFL history and the second time this season. TKD won back in week 1, 68.78 – 64.18. Double D leads the career series, however, 7-2. These two also met in week 11 last season, in a game that Double D won by 19.
Post Mortem can cinch the West division crown with a win over Turd Ferguson this week. Mortem beat Turd 78.02 – 71 in week 5. PM leads the overall series 8-6 and won two previous week 11 meetings with Turd, in 2001 and 2002.
Sharp as a Bowling Ball also has a chance to sew up their division this week when they take on The Jedi Masters. This is the 16th meeting between these clubs, with SaaBB holding a 9-6 series lead. SaaBB won their first meeting of the season, in week 7, 97.35 – 88.05. These two have one previous week 11 meeting, in 2006, a game won by SaaBB 79.47 – 74.95.
The Hip and CSPJ square off for the sixth time in league history. Both teams need this win to keep their playoff hopes alive. CSPJ won the last meeting, in week 7 last year, and leads the overall series, 3-2.
Camel Toe and Winning Beer Money meet for the third time in a series that is tied at one win each. They split a season series as division rivals in 2006.

Record Watch

Camel Toe hopes to end a 6-game losing streak. If they don’t, though, they will move up the charts a little on the single season losing streak record lists.
Both Post Mortem and SIAP have a chance to become the first team in PFFL history to win 50 division games.

Week 10 Matchups

Back in Week 2, DDT beat Double D by 40 points. That was DDT’s third consecutive victory over DD in this career series. Double D’s only win over DDT in four tries came in a week 10 matchup, in 2003, 121-89.
SIAP seeks a fourth straight win on the season when they face a reeling Camel Toe (losers of five in a row) this week. This all-time matchup is tied at one win apiece. Camel won in 2006, while SIAP won in ’07.
Post Mortem and Kramerica Industries are meeting for only the fifth time in a series that is tied at one win each. Kramerica won the last meeting, in 2006.
In a key matchup in terms of potential playoff tiebreakers, 5-4 TKD takes on 4-5 The Jedi Masters. TJM leads this series, 8-6, and has won the last five meetings. This is actually the third straight season where these two teams are meeting in week 10. The Jedis have won both of those games.
Hedfullalicker and Turd Ferguson battle for 2nd place in the West. Back in week 1, Hedfullalicker beat Turd by 30. That was Hed’s fifth straight win in this all-time matchup, led by Hed, 7-5.
The Hip and Winning Beer Money meet for the 12th time in league history this week in a must-win matchup as far as their playoff hopes are concerned. As division rivals last year, these two split their season series, but The Hip leads all-time, 7-4.
Central division leading SaaBB takes on last place CSPJ this week in a rematch of SaaBB’s 40-point week 2 win. SaaBB leads this career matchup, 5-4-1.

Post Mortem will look to extend its record-setting start to the season, currently at 9 games.

Week 9 Matchups

A pair of .500 teams square off in a non-division matchup this week when The Jedi Masters take on DDT. This is the first meeting between these clubs since week 13 of the 2006 season. DDT has lost two in a row this season and two in a row to TJM. On the plus side for DDT, they won the only previous week 9 game with TJM. The Jedis lead this series 5-2.
SIAP continues their quest for their first division win of the year with a matchup against Double D. SIAP is on a two game win streak while DD is on a 3-game slide had the ultimate comeback win last week. Back in week 3, DD beat SIAP 114.37 – 83.5, their 5th straight victory over SIAP in a series that they lead 6-3.
Tappa Kegga Day has a chance to move into first place in the heated battle in the East this week when they take on Kramerica. TKD has a victory over KI already this season, 86.74 – 79.77, four weeks ago. The Keg Tappers also lead the all-time matchup 3-2.
Post Mortem looks to stay unbeaten against 4-4 The Hip. In week 2, PM prevaled over The Hip, 116.42 – 106.61. Post holds the matchup lead, 8-4 and has beaten The Hip three straight times.
Hedfullalicker seeks to rise above the .500 mark and avenge a division loss from five weeks ago, as they take on Camel Toe. In week 4, Camel Toe beat Hedfull, 115.77 – 101.07, tying their all-time series at 2 wins each.
6-2 SaaBB plays a West division foe for the second week in a row, drawing 5-3 Turd Ferguson this time around. Oddly, this is their third straight week 9 meeting. In 2004, Turd beat SaaBB in week 9. Last year, SaaBB returned the favor in week 9. The overall series is tied 4-4. This should be a good one.
In the final division matchup of the week, 1-7 CSPJ battles 2-6 3-5 WBM. WBM leads this series, 4-1-1 and has won the last four meetings, including a week 6 win last season. This is the first of two meetings for these teams this season.

Record Watch – Post Mortem Edition

Post Mortem will try to become the first team in PFFL history to start the season 9-0.
In addition, PM is looking to become only the sixth team in league history to record a 9-game win streak.
A win this week would be the 95th regular season victory, and 100th win overall, for Post Mortem.
Post Mortem is also only 81.03 points away from the 15,000 regular season points milestone.

2008 Week 8 Preview [Olivia Munn]

In a matchup everyone is sure to be talking about, the game of the week looks to be the one between the two teams with the best record and longest winning streaks in the league, not to mention owning the two best starts to a season in PFFL history (this year and in 2004). In other action, two non-division games could play big roles later when the wild cards are handed out as these games feature three 4-3 teams and a 3-4 club. There’s also a battle for the division lead in the East and a game between a 2-5 team and the 1-6 team it hopes to remain ahead of in the playoff hunt.

Week 8 Matchups

DDT leads the career matchup over Kramerica, 4-3, but was swept in two games last season. The winner of this one will remain in at least a share of the lead in the East.
Amazingly, SIAP and Hedfullalicker have only played seven times. Last year’s week 10 meeting was their first matchup since 2001. SIAP won that game and leads the all-time series, 4-3.
TKD and WBM are squaring off for the 16th time ever in a rivalry that includes games in every season since WBM joined the league (1998). The series was evenly matched at 6 wins each through 12 games, but TKD has won the last three to take a 9-6 series lead. This is their first ever week 8 meeting.
Double D and Camel Toe are facing off for the second time. DD won last year, in week 7, 102.09 – 83.53. DD is hoping to end a 2 game losing streak while ‘Toe is hoping to snap a 3 game skid.
7-0 Post Mortem and 6-1 SaaBB meet in a battle of division leaders. Both teams own long win streaks (SaaBB is 6-0 since week 1) and lead their respective divisions by 3 games. PM leads the career series 8-4-1 and has won the last three. These two last met in 2006, in week 8 actually, when Mortem completed a season sweep of the Bowling Balls. PM is 2-0 against SaaBB in week 8. If you’re wondering about that tie, it happened in week 9 of the 2002 season. The winner of this one has the inside track on the number one seed in the playoffs.
The Hip puts their 3-game winning streak on the line this week against a tough Turd Ferguson team. Both teams are 4-3 and fighting for wild card position. Turd leads this matchup 7-4, but The Hip won the last meeting by 38, in week 12 last season.
The Jedi Masters and CSPJ are meeting for only the fifth time ever and the first time since 2005. They were in the same division once before, in 2004, when they also played in week 8. The Jedis won that game and the follow-up match later that season. Meanwhile, CSPJ has won both of the non-division meetings.

Record Watch

Post Mortem is seeking to tie the PFFL record for best start to a season, a record held by this week’s opponent.
SaaBB, meanwhile, is looking to move into a tie for 8th on the list of longest regular season win streaks.
Kramerica only needs one more high point week to tie for 10th on the list of most single season high point weeks.

2008 Week 7 Preview [Deanna Russo]

This week will officially complete the first half of the PFFL regular season (yes, already!). On the schedule in week 7, there are 3 division matchups and they are all of different types. One will determine whether the Central is a one- or two- team race. Another features two teams currently in the middle of the pack in the East. And the final one matches the undefeated first place team in the West with a dangerous cellar dweller. On top of the division excitement, four of the seven games this week match up teams who have played at least 12 times in the course of PFFL history, and who have very close all-time records.

Week 7 Matchups

DDT and The Hip meet for the 13th time in a series that has run continuously since 2001. The regular season series is led by DDT, 6-5, but the all-time matchup is squared up at 6 wins a piece based on The Hip’s championship win over DDT in ’02. This is the first time these teams are meeting in a week 7 game.
SIAP will battle CSPJ for the sixth time, but first after a season off in ’07. CSPJ won the first 3 of the 4 regular season meetings, with SIAP getting its first regular season win in 2006. SIAP’s other win in the series came in the opening round of the 2003 playoffs.
Double D holds a 6-1 series lead over Kramerica, including two wins in week 7 affairs. These clubs have battled every year since 2003 and Kramerica’s only win was in the finale of the 2004 regular season. That win ended a 3-game DD win streak in the matchup, which is also what DD has right now. This game looks to figure heavily in the playoff race, if not the East division chase.
Tappa Kegga Day and Turd Ferguson have played 15 times, including meeting in every season except 2003. TKD leads the matchup 8-7 (that includes a split in their 2 postseason meetings), and has won four in a row. Turd’s last victory over TKD came in week 3 of the 2004 season. Turd can take solace in the fact that the only time these two played in week 7 (2001), Turd won 133-102.
Post Mortem takes an undefeated record into a battle with 1-5 Camel Toe. These clubs have only met once before, in week 14 of the 2007 season. Camel won that game, 84.24 – 68.63.
Meeting for the 13th time, Hedfullalicker and WBM have each won 6 games in this series (one of WBM’s wins was in the playoffs). With the exception of a two-game run by Hed in 2000, this is a back-and-forth series with alternating winners. WBM won the last meeting, in the 2006 championship game. This is the first time WBM and Hedfull are playing in week 7.
The Jedi Masters are looking to make a move in the Central against SaaBB, who hasn’t lost since week 1. This will be the 15th overall meeting of these teams in a series that is tied at SaaBB leads 8-6, but has dominated 8-4 in the regular season. The Jedis beat SaaBB by 23 in their last meeting, week 1 of last season. Only once have these teams played in week 7. In 1999, The Jedi Masters beat SaaBB, 79-63.

Milestone Watch

Post Mortem is hoping to become only the 2nd team to complete the first half of a PFFL season undefeated. A win this week would also give PM their first ever 7-game regular season win streak.
Winning Beer Money is hoping to stop their losing streak at 5 games. A loss this week would give them the longest losing streak in their franchise history.
SaaBB looks for their 80th regular season victory.
DDT looks for their 60th regular season win.
TKD wants to avoid a 75th regular season loss.
Post Mortem will try to tie SIAP’s record of 48 division wins.

Kramerica has immunity in Survivor this week as the final 7 will be determined.

Here’s a quick Sunday at noon look at the key matchups in PFFL this week:

DDT and TKD are both undefeated in division play. That will change this week. DDT leads this series 6-3, but TKD won the last matchup, in week 7 last season.
SIAP and Kramerica are both winless in division play. That will also change this week. SIAP is favored here based on a 6-0 all-time record against KI, including a 103.34 – 100.45 win in week 9 of the 2007 season.
Double D and The Hip are both looking to get back to .500 this week. The Hip won the first two matchups in this series (in 2003 and 2006, week 1), but DD has won the last two (2006, week 11 and 2007).
Undefeated Post Mortem plays a one-loss team for the second straight week. Hedfullalicker beat PM in week 11 last year, but trails the all-time matchup 11-5. PM is 2-1 against Hed in week 6 meetings.
In a battle of opposites, 1-4 Camel Toe takes on 4-1 SaaBB. SaaBB beat CT twice last year in their only career meetings.
Turd Ferguson seeks to rebound from their second loss of the season against 0-5 CSPJ. Turd leads the career matchup 2-1, but they have alternated victories, so this could be CSPJ’s turn.
The Jedi Masters are hoping to get back to .500 and get their first division victory over a WBM team in the midst of a 4-game losing streak. The Jedis have dominated this series 8-3, but lost to WBM back in Week 1.

3 division matchups, an inter-division battle of 3-1 teams, a few long all-time series and a battle for first place in the West are all on tap in week 5. All that and more as we move past the 1/3 mark of the season.

Week 5 Matchups

DDT (3-1) battles SaaBB (3-1) for the 11th time. DDT leads the career series 7-3, and won the last meeting, in week 13 last season, earning a season split of their 2007 division doubleheader.
The 2-2 Jedi Masters take on 1-3 SIAP for the 13th time. The Jedis have owned this series of late, winning the last 3 meetings overall (and 4 straight in the regular season) to take an 8-4 series lead. In fact, SIAP’s last win over the Jedis was in the 2004 championship game.
Kramerica (2-2) and Tappa Kegga Day (3-1) meet in a division matchup. The all-time series is tied at 2 wins each, with Kramerica winning the last meeting, in round 1 of the playoffs last season.
Double D and Winning Beer Money square off in a matchup of 1-3 teams looking to get back in the hunt. DD has the all-time advantage at 4 wins – 2, but WBM beat DD last year in week 10.
In a key West division game, undefeated Post Mortem battles 3-1 Turd Ferguson for the 14th time in PFFL history. PM leads that career series, 7-6, but has lost the last two meetings with Turd. Interestingly, PM owns the postseason lead in the series 2-0, meaning that Turd actually has the regular season advantage, 6-5.
Hedfullalicker (3-1) is a big favorite in their non-division meeting with CSPJ (0-4). After winning the first three all-time meetings, CSPJ has lost four straight to Hedfullalicker.
In another division matchup, two 1-3 teams meet for the fourth time overall, and second this season. The Hip beat Camel Toe back in week 1, 72.93 – 49.53. That is The Hip’s only win thus far this season. Camel Toe got their first win last week with a dominant performance.

SIAP is only one loss away from 75 career regular season defeats.
Hedfullalicker is 103 away from 14,000 career regular season points.
The Jedi Masters need only 54 to reach 13,000 career regular season points.
CSPJ can extend their losing streak to 8 games.
Post Mortem looks to extend their streak of wins to start the season to 5.
