• SaaBB’s 136.45 point output was the most ever in a championship game

Now that the season has concluded, our annual franchise ratings have been updated. Some highlights:

• Post Mortem, SIAP and The Jedi Masters are the only five-star franchises in the league
• SaaBB’s championship win has vaulted them up a full rating point to 4.5
• Tappa Kegga Day’s poor season dropped them from a five-star rating to 4.5
• Double D and DDT held steady as four-star clubs, and Winning Beer Money is a three-star team for the second straight year
• The Hip, Hedfullalicker and Turd Ferguson are next, followed by Kramerica, who is slowly rising from their dismal early-franchise performance
• CSPJ’s division title has upped them slightly from their zero-star level to 0.5

Wow… So, yeah, that whole stat change thing really happened. Congratulations to Sharp as a Bowling Ball, who could very well become the first team in PFFL history to lose in the first round then win the championship, all in the same season. This is, of course, the biggest impact that the league has ever felt from the stat change rule, but if it wasn’t a passing TD, it shouldn’t count as one, right? Dave Frieder, please pipe down. Anyway, the stat-changed results will have some impact on record type stuff and everything so, just ignore everything in that last post and pay attention to this one.

Week 16 Results

• (5) Sharp as a Bowling Ball beat (8) Winning Beer Money for the third time this season and the sixth straight time in the last three years. SaaBB, who is lucky to even be here, will now play in their second ever PFFL Championship game.
• (3) SIAP snuck by (7) Double D in the closest playoff game in PFFL history. SIAP avenged a week 9 loss to DD, but still trails the overall series, 7-5. SIAP is in the championship game for a record fifth time, and is back after losing in the finale last season.

Playoff Records

• SaaBB’s 135.25 points are the 7th most in a playoff game
• The 50.56 point victory margin for SaaBB is actually only the 10th biggest blowout in postseason history
• SIAP’s 0.44 point win is the closest playoff win ever, and is the 8th closest game overall

I’m pulling this together while also packing for holiday travel. If things seem briefer than normal, that’s why. If it seems like every writeup, well, ummm, then I guess I was just more efficient this week. Yep, that’s it. This was an interesting week as all of the games went the same way as the 2009 regular season meetings went. The top 2 seeds fell, meaning the 2009 PFFL champion will be a 7- or 8- regular season win team. Neat.

Week 15 Results

• (8) Winning Beer Money ended (1) Post Mortem’s season the same way it began, by beating them soundly. WBM now holds a 7-3 all-time lead over Post Mortem. For Post Mortem, despite scoring the third highest points of the 8 playoff teams this week, it’s a second straight successful regular season followed by a first round playoff exit.
• (7) Double D beat (2) CSPJ by almost 30, similar to the 39 point beating they put on the smokers back in week 5. DD leads this series 5-2.
• (3) SIAP was the only division winner to score a victory this week, beating the previously red-hot (6) DDT by 16. It’s SIAP’s second win over DDT this season, but DDT still holds a 7-5 series lead. SIAP has a 2-0 playoff record against DDT.
• (4) Kramerica Industries snuck by (5) Sharp as a Bowling Ball by less than a point. This was Kramerica’s third win over SaaBB this season, tying their all-time series at 6 wins each. KI is 2-1 against SaaBB in the postseason.

Playoff Records

• Kramerica’s 0.74 point win is the second closest playoff game in league history. Only SaaBB’s 0.68 point win over SIAP in 2007 was more tightly contested.
• Post Mortem’s 99.32 points scored this week is the 9th highest point total in a playoff round losing effort.
• Post Mortem and Sharp as a Bowling Ball are the first PFFL teams to achieve the 10 postseason loss milestone. It’s going to be at least two years before anyone else is hitting this mark.
• SIAP extended their league-leading postseason win record to 13.

Playoff Semi-Final Matchups

• (3) SIAP vs (7) Double D – This is the first ever playoff meeting between these two teams, but it is the 12th meeting overall. Double D leads the series, 7-4 and beat SIAP in week 9, 102.92 – 73.99.
• (4) Kramerica Industries vs (8) Winning Beer Money – This is also the first ever playoff meeting between these two clubs, and the 13th meeting overall. Kramerica leads the all-time matchup, 8-4, and beat WBM in week 9, 89.94 – 84.75.

• Tappa Kegga Day knocked out The Jedi Masters while Camel Toe earned their first-ever post-week-14 game, beating The Hip.
• TKD now faces Turd Ferguson while Camel Toe takes on Hedfullalicker

Results

• CSPJ won their third straight game to improve to 9-5, the second best mark in the league. The victory earned the ’smokers a season sweep of Tappa Kegga Day and an impressive 7-1 division record. Despite the two wins this year for CSPJ, TKD still leads the career matchup, 7-3.
• Camel Toe closed out the season on a winning note, beating The Hip by 7. The win gives Toe an impressive 6-2 division record, including the sweep of The Hip. Unfortunately, that 0-6 non-division mark kept Camel out of the postseason.
• Sharp as a Bowling Ball won their third straight game to improve to 8-6 on the year and complete a season sweep of Winning Beer Money. SaaBB now leads that series 8-5-1 all-time.
• I jokingly mentioned that negative points from Kurt Warner would change the playoff lineup. Well, at half time of the Monday night game, that was holding true. Warner put together enough of a positive stat line in the second half for Kramerica to hold onto the 3.41 point win over Turd Ferguson though. The win earns KI a season split with Turd, but more importantly an 8-6 record and a playoff spot. This series is all tied up at 5 wins each.
• The Jedi Masters improved to 6-8 with a win over struggling SIAP. SIAP managed only 52.5 points in the losing effort, but still backed into a division title. The Jedis now lead this series, 9-5.
• Post Mortem rode the legs of Frank Gore, the arm of Matt Schaub and the injury replacement starting role of Quinten Gainther to their 12th win of the season. The victory completes a sweep of Hedfullalicker on the season and improves Post Mortem’s all-time lead over Hed to 14-6. For ‘licker, their fourth consecutive loss to end the season dropped them out of the playoffs.
• Duany Duany Tanning continued their late season surge, improving from 3-7 to win four straight games and qualify for the postseason. Both teams finished the year with identical 7-7 marks, including 3-3 in division play, and a season split head-to-head. But, while DDT has a 4-game win streak, Double D has now lost 3 in a row. DDT leads this all-time matchup, 5-2.

Individual Team High(or low)lights

• Camel Toe did something they haven’t done before. They improved their record over the previous season. Unfortunately, despite scoring the most points in franchise history, they still came up one victory short of the postseason.
• CSPJ’s 9-5 mark is equal to their franchise best mark set in 2004. This time, however, that record comes with their first ever division championship. Their 1318 points is also a franchise record.
• Double D continues to have up-then-down-then-up again seasons. Win totals in franchise history, starting in 2003: 9-6-10-8-11-4-7. Interesting? Maybe. Meaningless? Absolutely.
• DDT is the six seed in the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Their .500 season continued their run of success — only one year (2003) under .500 in franchise history. Their 1326 points is the second highest total in franchise history, behind only the 1424 posted in their inaugural season of 2001.
• Hedfullalicker finishes the decade with a crazy stat: even years in the 2000’s? Playoffs. Odd years? No Playoffs. Yep, that’s right, Hedfullalicker is 5/10 in playoff qualifying since 2000, all in even numbered years.
• Kramerica Industries is in the postseason for a third consecutive season. Their 1273 points scored this season is a franchise best.
• Post Mortem is 23-5 in regular season action over the last two seasons. That’s unprecedented in PFFL history. Mortem’s Central division title is their first division win outside of the West. This is the fifth straight playoff berth for Post, and the 1454 points scored this season is second most in franchise history.
• SaaBB is in the playoffs for the third straight season, and first ever as the #5 seed. SaaBB’s 1266 points is fourth most in franchise history.
• SIAP won their third West Division title (to go with one Central division crown in their trophy rack) and is in the playoffs for the third straight season. However, their 1189 points is their lowest season output since 2003.
• Tappa Kegga Day struggled to the second worst season record in franchise history, behind their 3-11 finish in 2002. The 1200 points scored is actually the fourth most ever scored by a TKD team. However, the 1519 points allowed is by far the most given up.
• The Hip, who won back-to-back league championships in 2002 and 2003 are now 18-38 over the last four seasons. Ouch.
• The Jedi Masters finished 6-8 for the second straight season after a run of dominance in the middle of the decade. Their 1232 points scored, while not at all awful, were their lowest output since 2005.
• Turd Ferguson followed up their 2008 playoff season with a pretty mediocre run of it in 2009. The highlight of their year is probably recording their first high point week since 2006.
• Winning Beer Money is back in the playoffs after a one year layoff. They are now 19-23 since their championship season in 2006. The 1269 points scored by WBM this year is fourth in team history, while the 1234 points against is 3rd highest in franchise history.

Two Week Finals: The Jedi Masters: 199.96 – Post Mortem: 189.91

The Jedi Masters, despite not making the playoffs, won their second ever Survivor title (oh, and $100). They are now 2-1 in Survivor finals. Post Mortem, on the other hand, has the season high points win, so taking only $40 in Survivor probably isn’t too terrible. Mortem is now 1-2 in Survivor finals.

• CSPJ clinched the East Division crown with a win over Camel Toe. This earned CSPJ the season split with ‘Toe and gives them a 4-2 all-time lead in the matchup.
• Tappa Kegga Day picked up their 4th win of the year and put a serious dagger in the Jedi’s playoff chances. These two split their season series, but TJM still leads 9-8 all-time.
• The Hip picked up their fourth win and prevented Double D from locking up a playoff spot. This is The Hip’s second consecutive win over DD, and they now own a 4-2 series lead.
• Winning Beer Money extended their win streak to 4 and will be postseason-bound if they make it 5 next week. For Turd, it was a crushing 6th division loss on the year, and second to WBM. WBM completely owns this career matchup, 12-2
• SIAP inched closer to a division title, winning a must-win game against Kramerica. The season sweep of KI gives SIAP an 8-2 all-time lead, but more importantly, a 5-3 division record on the year that can only be tied by their West challengers.
• SaaBB pushed Hedfullalicker to the brink of playoff elimination, while setting up a week 14 play-in game for themselves. This was SaaBB’s first win over Hed since 2005 in a series that ‘licker leads 9-4.
• DDT accomplished what only one other team (WBM) has done this season. They defeated Post Mortem. The win results in a season series split, and ends a four-game win streak for PM over DDT. ‘Mortem still leads the career series, 6-4.

• CSPJ took control of the East division race and knocked The Hip out of the playoff hunt in the process. The 40-point win completed a season sweep of The Hip and gives CSPJ a 5-3 all-time series lead.
• Winning Beer Money won their third straight game to get back to .500 and insert themselves right in the thick of the playoff chase. Camel Toe, on the other hand, seems to be fading. This series is tied at two wins each.
• DDT kept their postseason chances alive by knocking the defending champs out of the race. The win gives DDT an 8-5 series lead.
• Despite a furious comeback by The Jedi Masters, Post Mortem held on to beat the Jedis in the 20th all-time meeting of these two clubs. This is Mortem’s second straight win over the Jedis, giving them an 11-9 series lead.
• Following Turd’s victory over Hedfullalicker, both of these teams sit at .500. Ferguson leads this career matchup, 8-7.
• Kramerica Industries won a low-scoring battle with Double D, who lost Matt Ryan early, putting both teams at 7-5 on the year. Despite the KI’s win, Double D still leads this series, 7-3.
• SaaBB claimed high points for the week with a 48 point drubbing of SIAP. These two split their season series, but this win gives SaaBB a remote chance at winning the division, something that seemed unlikely a couple weeks back.

Double D picked the wrong week to suffer an injury to Matt Ryan and a rare down week for MJD. As it turns out, they have missed a guaranteed $40 payout by one week.

Their head-to-head battle this week was settled by only 11 points, so the Survivor final between Post Mortem and The Jedi Masters should be a good one. Two weeks – cumulative points – $40 for second, $100 for first.

• Camel Toe exploded for weekly high points with over 153, improving to 5-6 (and, it should be noted, 5-1 in the division) with a win over defending league champion Tappa Kegga Day, who fall to 3-8. CT’s season sweep of TKD ties the career matchup between these two at two wins each.

Eliminated: The Hip

The Hip and The Jedi Masters played each other head-to-head this week, and after all was said and done, that game was for survival. As it should be this late in the game, the 89.53 points scored by The Hip are the highest for any eliminated team this season.

The stage is now set for this week’s battle to get into the Survivor finals. There is another head-to-head matchup this week that will determine at least one spot in the finals as the winner of Post Mortem – The Jedi Masters is in the money.

• CSPJ dropped The Jedi Masters to build a two-game lead in the West Division race. With the season sweep of the Jedis, CSPJ has tied this all-time series at 4 wins each.
• SaaBB won their fourth in a row to firmly re-enter the playoff race, while Camel Toe dropped a fourth consecutive game and is going to have to fight for a postseason berth. SaaBB now owns this series, 4-0.
• Winning Beer Money continued their up-and-down season with an “up” week, beating TKD by 50. This is WBM’s second straight win over TKD, but they still trail the series, 8-9.
• Hedfullalicker defeated The Hip to move into a tie for 2nd place in the Central. This is Hed’s third straight win over The Hip, but The Hip still leads the career matchup 9-8.
• SIAP may not have scored enough points to remain in Survivor, but they did score enough to beat Turd Ferguson for the second time this year. Note – this game was 74.74 – 67.84. Their week 1 matchup? 69.59 – 53.5. SIAP has won five in a row over Turd and leads this series 12-6.
• Kramerica Industries remained one back of SIAP, and took home weekly high point honors.  For DDT, this marks 4 consecutive losses after a 3-3 start to the year. This series is knotted up at five wins each.
• Post Mortem won their ninth straight game, as Randy Moss led the comeback win on Sunday night. The season sweep of Double D gives Mortem a three-game DD win streak, but DD still leads the career series 8-4.

• Post Mortem’s 9th straight win is tied for the third longest regular season win streak ever. Only TJM’s 12- and TKD’s 11-game streaks are better.
• Sharp as a Bowling Ball became the sixth team in PFFL history to score 15,000 regular season points. Taking 178 games to reach the mark, SaaBB joins Post Mortem, Hedfullalicker, The Hip, SIAP and TKD in this exclusive club. And yes, this is the complete list of remaining teams from PFFL’s inaugural season in 1997.
• The Jedi Masters are the one “non-original” PFFL team that will likely hit 15,000 points this season. They currently sit at 14,803.82. If they break the mark this season, they will be the second fastest team to 15k.

This week, they again had the lowest score of the five teams competing, but had nothing to save them, and were eliminated. Four teams remain, and there is no immunity to save anyone in the next two weeks, which will determine the Final Two.

Week 9 Results

• Hedfullalicker continued their recent dominance of CSPJ, beating the ‘Smokers for the 6th straight time in a series where CSPJ won the first three matchups. Both teams are now at 5-4, fully in control of their playoff hopes.
• Following a defeat at the hands of the Jedis, Camel Toe has now lost three straight to fall to below .500 for the first time this season. TJM, meanwhile, gets themselves back into the playoff hunt. The Jedis now lead this all-time series 4-1 (with the only loss coming back in week 3)
• Tappa Kegga Day improved to 3-6 with a win over The Hip. These two are pretty equal on the season. 3-6 overall, 1-4 in the division. Those division wins? Against each other. It’s going to be an uphill battle from here as far as the postseason is concerned. TKD now leads the all-time matchup, 9-5.
• Kramerica again has a winning record, thanks to their win over Winning Beer Money, losers of three straight. KI leads this series 8-4, including a season sweep in their division matchups, and a four game run dating back to 2007.
• SaaBB won their third straight game, dropping Turd Ferguson, to improve to 4-5. The win gives SaaBB a season sweep of Turd in the division, and was their fourth in a row over Fergie. Turd hasn’t beaten the ‘Bowling Balls since 2004. Ouch.
• Double D continued their midseason win streak, now at 5 in a row, with a victory over SIAP. The win gives DD a 7-4 career lead over the ‘Pissers.
• Post Mortem remained perfect in division play, and extended their win streak to 8 games, with a win over DDT, losers of three in a row. ‘Mortem has won four in a row over DDT and holds an all-time lead in this matchup, 6-3.

• Post Mortem’s 8-game win streak is tied for 7th longest all-time (and 5th longest in a single season). A win in week 10 would tie PM’s longest ever win streak of 9, which happened to in wks 1-9 of last season.
• TKD’s win this week ended their losing streak at 6, tied for the fifth longest losing streak in one season.
• SaaBB is only 26.91 points away from becoming the sixth team in PFFL history to compile 15,000 regular season points.
• Post Mortem’s high point week gives them 20.5 all-time. They are the first franchise to 20, and lead SIAP, who has 19.
• Tappa Kegga Day became the fifth team to win 50 division games.

SIAP only scored 73.99 points this week, but used the power of immunity to save themselves from elimination. DDT was not quite as lucky, getting eliminated with an 83.8 point output, the first point total above 64 for an eliminated team this season. Post Mortem rode high points for the week to the final immunity necklace of the season and is ensured of a spot in the final four. The Jedi Masters, Double D, The Hip and SIAP will battle it out this week for the other three spots in the immunity-less final four weeks.

Week 7 Results

• CSPJ defeated Kramerica. Both teams moved to 4-3 on the year, and the all-time matchup is tied at 4 wins each.
• Post Mortem dropped Camel Toe for the second time in their four career meetings. The 87.02 points scored by PM in the win? The most ever scored in a PM-CT matchup. The win is Mortem’s sixth in a row on the year.
• Tappa Kegga Day lost their fifth straight game of the season, while The Jedi Masters improved to 3-4 (and 2-2 in division play) with a resounding 50 point win. The Jedis lead this series 9-7.
• SIAP rose to 5-2 with a close win over The Hip. These two teams had played every season from 1997-2007, but took a break in their PFFL relationship last year. The Hip might wish it had stayed that way, as SIAP leads this matchup overall, 11-5.
• SaaBB erupted with 132 points in a convincing defeat of Winning Beer Money. It’s SaaBB’s fourth straight win over WBM, good enough for a 7-5-1 series lead.
• Turd Ferguson improved to 3-4 with a big win over DDT. Turd leads overall 5-3 in this matchup that had been inactive since 2006.
• Double D extended their win streak to three games and moved into a tie for second in the Central with their third straight win over Hedfullalicker all-time.

Week 8 Results

• CSPJ moved into sole possession of first place in the East, handing defending champ TKD a sixth consecutive loss in the process. This is only CSPJ’s second win over TKD in 9 tries. Their first win was way back in 2003, in the first ever game between these clubs.
• Turd Ferguson dropped Camel Toe as both teams moved to .500. This is Turd’s third straight win over Toe, giving them a 4-1 series lead.
• The Hip improved to 3-5 with a win over 3-5 DDT. The Hip leads this matchup 8-6 and has won two straight over Tanning.
• SaaBB has its first win streak of the season, winning their second consecutive game, this time over the Jedis. Both teams sit at 3-5. For SaaBB, this is their third straight “W” over the Jedis, and they lead the series 11-6.
• Winners of four straight, Double D now sits alone in second in the Central, as they handed WBM a second straight loss in a game decided by 2 points. It’s DD’s second straight win over Beer Money, and it extends their all-time advantage to 6-2.
• SIAP won their second straight game to open up a 2-game cushion in the West. Kramerica lost their second straight and now sits at .500. SIAP owns KI all-time, 7-2.
• After handing Hedfullalicker a third straight loss, Post Mortem has now won seven straight. Mortem now has a 13-6 advantage over Hed all-time, leading up to their 20th meeting later this season.

• Post Mortem’s 7-game win streak is tied for the 9th longest winning streak in PFFL history
• Tappa Kegga Day’s 6-game loss streak is tied for 5th longest loss streak in a single season, and 10th longest overall (crossing seasons)
• By getting like… one more point than Post Mortem this week, SIAP now has 19 high point weeks all-time. The next high point week by PM or SIAP will mark the first PFFL team to 20.
