Double D Wins Super Bowl IX in Low-Scoring Thriller

I guess you could also call it a "defensive struggle." Late in the afternoon games on Sunday, it was an Ernest Wilford touchdown catch that put Double D up going into the Sunday Night game between Dallas and St Louis. DD was done. TKD had both Julius Jones and the Dallas defense left and only needed 11 points from the two players combined to get the win.

Surprisingly, a Rams defense that has been criticized all year for not tackling did nothing but tackle Julius Jones, who finished the game with only 35 rushing yards (and actually had negative receiving yards). Meanwhile, the Dallas defense played ok, but failed to get a turnover and notched only two sacks. Making matters worse, Drew Bledsoe played terribly and had a couple of interceptions that put St Louis in great field position to score, dropping the number of points TKD was getting from the Cowboy D.

Super Bowl Records

  • Double D wins their first title, and becomes only the 7th PFFL franchise to win one.
  • In addition, they join TKD, The Hip and SIAP as the only active PFFL franchises to have a Super Bowl win
  • Double D is now 1-1 in championship games; TKD is 1-2
  • Double D's 5-1 postseason record is tops among active teams (and trails only High Life in career total); TKD is fifth all-time at a respectable 8-3
  • TKD's 64.75 points is the second lowest ever scored in a PFFL Super Bowl. The lowest? TKD's 50 point performance in Super Bowl I.
  • Double D's 66.68 points is the fourth lowest championship point total, and obviously the lowest scored in a win

NFL Confidence Pool

The season-long NFL Confidence Pool also wrapped up this weekend. Winning Beer Money came out on top, scoring 98 this week and 1557 overall. Key to their winning week was low confidence in Baltimore and a correct pick of the Jets over Buffalo. WBM wins $100 for their impressive showing this season. DDT finished in 2nd place with 1546 points and wins $30. The Jedi Masters stumbled into third with 1528 points on the year.

Toilet Bowl

Despite hating the idea, SIAP won the 2nd annual PFFL Toilet Bowl, defeating SaaBB, 65.19 - 41.67.

Franchise Ratings

With the season reaching it's conclusion, Forbes has released their annual rating for each PFFL franchise. You can view the details here, but some highlights include:

  • SIAP's struggles knocked them down slightly from 5-star status
  • The Hip maintained their lofty rating due to a playoff berth
  • Post Mortem gained a full star with an impressive season
  • League champion Double D gained a full two stars
  • Tappa Kegga Day rebuilt a little of their image with a one-star gain in the ratings
  • SaaBB lost a full star with a disappointing season
  • Kramerica and WNFL continue to be ranked dead last in franchise ratings

That's all, folks!

And with that, the PFFL season is officially over. Stay tuned as preparations for PFFL 10, the celebration of PFFL's first decade, will begin soon. Keep your late August and early September weekends open.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for league rule changes, PFFL 10 celebration components, or anything else, please don't hesitate to send them to me via email.

Thanks for another great year!
