Winning Super Bowl X: Winning Beer Money Captures First Championship

The PFFL championship was decided by less than 2 points for the second straight year. In 2005, Double D won by 1.93 points over TKD. Not to be outdone, Winning Beer Money captured the PFFL Super Bowl X crown with a 1.15 point victory over Hedfullalicker.

The game was almost decided by 0.05 points:
(6:17) B.Griese pass short right to M.Muhammad to CHI 48 for 11 yards (A.Harris). PENALTY on CHI, Illegal Formation, 5 yards, enforced at CHI 37 - No Play.

Winning Beer Money started the perfect lineup, led by Tony Romo's 22.65 point performance (despite three turnovers) and Frank Gore's huge overtime-assisted rushing day for 21.5. Hedfullalicker, on the other hand, chose to start the aforementioned Muhammad against the Packers on Sunday night. Had they chosen to play Chris Henry instead, this game would've gone their way. As it was, Ben Roethlisberger's long TD pass in overtime, supported big days from both Roy Williams and the Baltimore defense in the losing effort. The other diappointment for Hedfullalicker was the Lions beatdown of the Cowboys. While that included Williams' big receiving day, it also made Philadelphia's game meaningless, leading to a short day for Brian Westbrook.

Super Bowl Records

  • The 1.15 point victory margin is the lowest in PFFL championship history
  • Hedfullalicker's 99.89 points are the most ever in a losing effort in the Super Bowl, surpassing the previous record of 94 set by SaaBB in Super Bowl IV
  • The 200.93 combined points are second in PFFL championship history, to SIAP's 134-94 win over SaaBB in Super Bowl IV

Other PFFL Records

  • Hedfullalicker's 7th postseason loss is tied with Post Mortem and SaaBB for most in PFFL history
  • Hedfullalicker is now 9th in postseason scoring with 757.97 points, Winning Beer Money is 10th with 623.72
  • Winning Beer Money is now one of five teams who are undefeated in championship games (The Hip is the only one of the five with two appearances and wins)
  • Hedfullalicker is one of six teams who are 0-1 in championship games (no team has ever appeared a second time without winning once)

Toilet Bowl
Kramerica Industries defeated The Hip, 81.76 - 59.03, to win the 2006 Toilet Bowl championship.

Franchise Ratings
With the season complete, the season ending franchise ratings have been calculated. Some interesting notes:

  • The value of PFFL franchises is increasing as a record five franchises have ratings of 4 or better
  • SIAP and Post Mortem lead the way as 4.5 star teams -- SIAP held steady, despite missing the playoffs
  • The Hip dropped from 4.5 to 4 stars in the ratings after a disappointing year
  • A division championship and league-best regular season record elevated Tappa Kegga Day from 3 to 4 stars
  • DDT's playoff qualifying year improved their rank by a half star
  • Last year's Super Bowl champs Double D (who got 0 points from Dominack Davis in every single week of this season) held steady at 3.5 stars
  • The Jedi Masters improved from 2.5 to 3.5 stars with a division title and playoff win
  • Winning Beer Money's Super Bowl crown takes them from a troubled franchise rating of 2 to a solid 3
  • Hedfullalicker made the biggest increase in franchise value, as their Super Bowl appearance resurrected them from a 1-star franchise to a solid 2.5 star team
  • SaaBB's struggles continue, and they've fallen from a 3.5 star rating two years ago to a 2-star team (maybe the move back to Milwaukee will help)
  • Freshman franchise Camel Toe holds a 1-star rating as they head into 2007 (although one has to wonder what might have been had the momentum of their great start continued)
  • CSPJ lost another full star worth of rating as they struggled to a 3-11 record
  • Kramerica Industries, despite that Toilet Bowl win, continues to be the lowest valued team in PFFL, with a 0 rating for the fourth straight season

Season-Ending Finances
View the complete season ending finance breakdown here

  • Winning Beer Money led all money winners this season with $505 in winnings
  • Tappa Kegga Day's regular season dominance places them second on the list and Hedfullalicker's runner up status has them in third
  • Six of PFFL's fourteen franchises made it into the black this year
  • CSPJ's dismal 3 win season was redeemed somewhat by favorable interest rates all year long, as their status as the team that had the most points scored against them earns them a cool $72.46 (the interest earned on PFFL fees in the last year)

That's All Folks
Ten years of PFFL play are now officially in the books. This season featured some great storylines, from Camel Toe's great start and terrible finish to Double D's terrible start and great finish. We had two teams in the championship who had never before won in the postseason, and seemingly everyone was still alive for a playoff spot in week 14.

We're only about 8 and a half months away from starting the storylines of the 2007 season when the 11th PFFL draft occurs.

Champ Team Recap Babe of the Week!
You know, I'm not even sure who the other half of Winning Beer Money would want to see in pictures here, but I know that one half has always had a major crush on Brooke Burke. So, here she is -- congratulations WBM!
