I dressed up as a mascot today

I’ve never made one of those lists of 100 things I want to do before I die. I’m pretty sure if I did, dressing up as an actual mascot would be one of them. Now, I could cross that off.
See, today, we were volunteering at the US Short Track Speedskating Championships and while I thought my job was going to be “athlete security,” when they asked if anyone wanted to dress up as a mascot, I figured, “sure, what the heck!”
(btw, the picture over there is from the Marquette site, it’s not me in that costume, although I was dressed in something quite similar)
I should also mention that as a Wisconsin Badger fan, I really have little love for Marquette, so dressing up as the golden eagle wouldn’t have been my top choice, but it was better than the top-heavy moose, the hideously deformed cream puff or the weird sub sandwhich.
Lessons learned while dressed as a mascot:
- Little girls love mascots
- It’s tough to spend all of that time not talking
- Kids that think it’s funny to pound on the mascot’s head deserve a good body-checking
- Kids that try to get you to talk are cute at first, but get annoying after an hour
- It’s really fucking hot inside those costumes
- Even if they’re scared at first, every kid loves a mascot
After volunteering, we went to TGI Fridays and we all ordered the Pick 3 for 12.99 deal. That’s too much food. WAY too much food.
Now, I’m tired and going to bed. Good Night.

“Little girls love mascots”
You sick bastard!
not like that! I’m saying that honestly, every little girl under the age of 12 was all smiley when they saw a mascot. Some were content to high-five the mascot, some wanted a hug, some wanted a picture, some wanted to have a “conversation” (mascots can’t talk), etc
I think you’re the sick bastard for thinking I meant it in a naughty way!
What I think was most funny about dressing up as a mascot (I was the top-heavy moose with big hips) is that every time someone wanted to take a picture of me, I was smiling inside the costume at the camera, as if somehow that would make the moose smile too. I tried not to smile, but it’s hard not to smile when you know you’re in people’s pictures.
Very funny! I never would have thought my brother would do something like this! Especially since he couldn’t talk for hours! I’m sure that was a challenge! Where’s the picture of you???
Ha Ha…
Hopefully a picture or two will be forthcoming. Unfortunately, none of us had a camera out on the ice, so the only pictures we really have are some of us getting ready…
Ha that’s pretty funny. I find it hard to believe that you would volunteer for something where you couldn’t talk for long periods of time
I was surprisingly good at charades…
Post – somehow I’m not surprised
probably has something to do with how well I communicate on a 9-year-old level
