Never Let Me Go (Alex Awards (Awards))

Rating: 4 out of 5

Author: Kazuo Ishiguro

Year: 2005

Publisher: Knopf

ISBN: 1400043395

In Never Let Me Go, we’re introduced to Kathy, Tommy, Ruth and a number of other “special” children who attend the mysterious Hailsham boarding school. Over the course of this book, we learn just what makes these children different.

It’s pretty difficult to discuss much more of the plot of this novel without giving too much away, but I will say that Ishiguro’s imaginated tale is one that may not be completely far-fetched in a hundred years or so.

First of all, “imaginated” is not a word. Second of all, please have the balls to discuss the plot. Don’t make predictions about the future if you are not going to back them up with textual evidence. Finally, Ishiguro’s novel is actually very apropos. There is speculation in the scientific community that a human being has already been cloned. His purpose is to provoke thought right now about the implications of human cloning. We should not wait 100 years for such a horrificly inhumane situation similar to that described in the novel to become the norm. There are enough looming problems in the world today for us to sit back and allow another monstrously disgusting one to take hold.

Wow, yeah, thanks for commenting. Always nice to make a new friend. Or, well, have someone tell me I don’t have “balls” when I’m giving my personal thoughts about a book I read.

As for imaginated: my blog, my vocabulary. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. I mean, the site is called waymorefunner for cryin’ out loud… :)
